Logistics Master Class:
outside in view.

Henkel Adhesive Technologies
Henkel holds globally leading market positions both in the consumer and industrial sector and is well known for brands such as Persil, Schwarzkopf and Loctite. The company is headquartered in Düsseldorf, Germany, and proud of its almost 50,000 employees from more than 120 nations. Henkel Adhesive Technologies is the world’s leading solution provider for adhesives, sealants and functional coatings.

Logistics is a key link in Henkel’s value chain with a massive impact on service levels and customer perception. Henkel delivers its huge product portfolio to more than 100.000 highly diverse customers through a complex network of distribution centres, hubs, cross-dock operations and transhipment points. This network has largely been outsourced to a variety of national, regional and global logistic service providers.

As part of Henkel’s Professional Campus, a learning path has been developed for Logistics, covering warehousing and transport. The Logistics Master Class is the final step in this learning path. Objective is

to give an outside-in view of the logistics profession, by discussing best practices from within and mainly outside Henkel. The best practices are combined with serious gaming.

Core of the Logistics Master Class is formed by a vast series of external best practices, partly from comparable companies and partly from other industry segments. The practices are briefly introduced in logical blocks, followed by intense reflection sessions. Objective of each reflection is to decide whether Henkel can learn from these best practices and apply them internally.

The best practices are alternated with the Distribution Management Game. In this serious game, the participants experience the power of optimising the logical structure of a distribution network. In 4-5 rounds, they redesign a classic network and optimise the structure for the specific product and market characteristics.
