CHALLENGE
Get all managers on the same base level of knowledge and skills on leadership competencies and supply chain knowledge.
The objective of Samsung Electronics Europe Logistics BV was to optimise the European Supply Chain strategy for all electronics products to become the Global Logistics Leader in electronics. In order to make this happen, the organization started a Management Program in which all European managers participated.
SOLUTION
We developed a tailor made Management Program to train people in leadership competencies and to refresh their knowledge of supply chain management. Both soft skills and hard skills were trained by using a business simulation which provided an experiential learning environment in which people could apply the concepts and principles from the training.

The Management Program consisted of three modules, each module focusing on a specific leadership competence.

On the first training day of each module, theoretical concepts and methods were discussed and trained by using amongst others small role plays.

On the second day of each module, participants played the supply chain business simulation The Fresh Connection. This offered the opportunity to learn and apply supply chain concepts and principles while experiencing new behaviour in a safe environment. Participants experienced that collaboration is essential to get positive results. During this day, the link to the leadership competences of the first day was established. While diving deeper into the simulation of The Fresh Connection, sometimes being stressful or hectic, participants were challenged to work on their personal learning objectives formulated on the first day of the training. In this way, a safe learning environment was created which looked like daily life, where the main focus was on other, more rational questions than on own behaviour. During the time, The Fresh Connection was played, a dedicated trainer challenged the participants to experiment with the newly learned soft skills and provided feedback on the participants’ behaviour during the team sessions.
